October 24, 2017

This short video demonstrates how a kitchen renovation does not need to cost the earth. It can be cheap! In 2014, we have access to heaps of reviews on products before buying.

If you are renovating your kitchen on a budget, shop around, don’t be tempted just to get someone in to do the whole lot. If you do your homework, there are great savings to be made!

Kitchens are not hard to fit these days! I have a full time job, and just fit one cupboard per evening. If you are doing a kitchen renovation on a budget, DIY it as much as you can.

A Couple’s Decision to DIY their Home Renovation

September 24, 2017

Do you feel excited when:
1. You’ve collected your new nest key?
2. You’re discussing your interior design of your new place?
3. You’re shopping around for your furniture and fittings at megastore?

But at the same time, do you have these feelings?
1. Haiz, it’s really expensive for a house of this size” – when you first step into your new nest
2. “Sian.. it’s really a huge sum involved” – when you turn to the last page of the renovation quotation,
3. OrhKay, let’s look at other models”, when you flip the price tag of the furniture…

Well, we go through the same feelings and process as most people nowadays. However, we dealt with it differently with our BIG house. For that reason, we are delighted to be invited by Renonation.sg to pen down our house transformation experience and share with you!!

DIY self stick tile laying & Bathroom renovation home improvement.

I bought all the parts at Lowes near me in Kissimmee Florida.

These self stick DIY tiles have a 25 year warranty and really look great!

I replaced our old toilet with a new water saver one, I priced out redoing the one I had vs replacing it and the new one was only $45 more so it was a no brainier.

I hope you find this video inspiring and you upgrade your bathroom and have fun doing it.. This whole project cost under $200 and made a nice difference.

I hope you enjoy your weekend,

All the best,

Home Design | DIY Home Improvement Made Easy

July 24, 2017

Home design and diy home improvement projects are two topics that a lot of people need help with. I can shed some light here. I have been a carpenter and contractor for over 30 years and have a vast knowledge when it comes to bedroom designs, interior design ideas, and handyman renovation projects that almost anyone can do themselves with a little bit of instruction.

I have seen it all over the years. The mistakes that people make when trying to complete projects on their own without getting advice first is absolutely mind blowing. Just taking the time to talk with a professional or doing a little research could have saved a lot of money for these people. Even a small job not done correctly can turn into an absolute nightmare and a very expensive repair quite easily. Not knowing the difference between cosmetic walls and functional load-bearing walls can spell disaster for a lot of people.

The vast majority of DIYers today are interested in bathroom design, small kitchen design and basement ideas. All of these areas are delicate and must be handled correctly. On this Youtube
channel, you will find various videos about all of these things as well as others that you may not have thought about but would be interested in learning more about. I am constantly updating and adding videos so subscribe to my channel to stay up to date.

Along with interior designing ideas, I also delve into exterior renovation projects that can vastly increase the value of your home.

Livework family of 3 DIY small home remodel

May 24, 2017

Architect Sarah Deeds used to live alone with her cat in a 700 square foot attic floor apartment. To create a guest room in her one bedroom space, she built a bookshelf ladder up to a loft (She’s not a carpenter, but she’s spent years learning to build her own furniture and tinkering on her home).

Then her boyfriend, carpenter John McBride moved in with his dog. To create a home office (for her) and a practice space (for his beginning cello), they built a 120-square-foot backyard studio from salvaged self-milled redwood (see our video Architect & carpenter craft tiny backyard 120-sq-ft studio)

Last year, they added one more to their household with their baby Willa. Her bed is in their room, her changing space is in the living room (and to keep the litter box out of the baby’s way, they built it into the closet with a cat door through the wall for access), but for now, they’re still happy with their small home because it helps them keep life simple.

Dear Mr. Ricardo,

Please accept our thanks for a spectacular job performed by your company. Our pool deck and patio areas look absolutely beautiful with the new pavers. We are especially impressed with the paving job done on our waterfront patio which is winding and very intricate. You are quite the artisans!

When our new shrubs are planted, we feel that our condominium will have the loveliest waterfront in Pompano Beach in part, thanks to your efforts.

“Hello Nilson:
Thank you so much the wonderful job you’ve completed at my house at the Bocaire Country Club in Boca Raton. I loved it. Your team finished the job on time. I particularly appreciate the attention to detail that was given every step of the way. At all times the site job was very clean. For me that is very important. I am a very detail oriented person.

Nilson, thank you for advising me which material to use in this project. The quality of the marble and the color that you’ve suggested were great! The final result was exactly what I was expecting.

I was dazzled with the skills you and your crew demonstrated setting the pattern with the four different sizes of Turkish marble. Very impressive!

Every time I’ve approached your crew they were very polite to me.

I was so happy with the work that you’ve performed at my place that I’ve mentioned you to a few friends at the Bocaire Country Club. I am so glad that a few of the them already hired you to execute projects at their houses.

Looking forward to hire you again in my next project”

How To Seal An Asphalt Driveway

February 24, 2017

Why spend thousands to pay for someone to repair your asphalt driveway when you can do it yourself. If you haven’t already cleaned and repaired your driveway visit http://youtu.be/FSrVEUaL7YE.

For this project you will need an asphalt sealer, paint brush and an asphalt driveway brush with squeegee. Apply two thin coats one that runs horizontally and then one that runs vertically from left to right. To begin sealing, after mixing the sealant thoroughly, use a brush to mark around the edges. Using the squeegee or the brush pour sealant and even out on the driveway. Be sure to apply the two thing coats first horizontally then vertically. Allow the sealer to dry according to the manufacturers instructions.

A once cracked driveway, now is cleaned, repaired and resealed. For more helpful videos visit https://www.Lowes.com/Videos.

Our New Trane Heating and Air Conditioning Installation

February 20, 2017

Las Year we had an HVAC technician out to our home 4 times to make repairs to our AC. Each time the problem was different and for the most part it was not too expensive to fix. Fortunately we got through October before the compressor finally went out.
We bought our home about 4 years ago. In that time we have been lucky enough to have made no major repairs. So when the AC went out we were shocked at the cost to replace it.
We had 3 bids come in from $9,000 to $12,000. We were ready to take the lowest of those when we did a search online for the new air conditioning installers. To say the least, we are glad we did. We got bids that were much lower for the same brands offered before.
For us we had considered 3 brands, Amana, Lennox and Trane. In realty we thought Lennox was what we were going to go for. It was about $300 less than Trane and $200 more than Amana. With our second child heading off to school next year, every penny counts.

Lennox vs Trane

What sold us on the Trane was the man was our neighbor. About 5 years ago he installed a new Lennox. While we were having troubles with our AC so was he. His air conditioner was still under warranty but he was complete disappointed in how they were handling his repair.

Sometimes his AC wouldn’t work. Other times it was fine. He said it was like this for about 2 weeks and he had it looked at twice in that time. Neither time could they find the problem. Then the AC quit working all together. Over the 4th of July and for the week that followed he had no AC. All total, he thinks he was without air for 10 days.
The company that did the install and the warranty repair had told him that they were waiting for approval from Lennox to replace the part.
To spite of the extra expense, we had a Trane installed and we are very happy with the price. The install came with a 10 year parts warranty and a 3 year labor warranty. We spent just over $6700 and got a 4.9% interest rate for 7 years. While the company was doing the install they found duct leaks and fixed those too, at no charge.
Though I am not happy about the surprise expense, we are very pleased with the deal we got on the installation of the Trane Heating and Air Conditioner.
